This casestudy aims to give an insight into how rethaching should be conducted in the preservation of traditionally thatched houses. The field chosen is Ogimachi, Shirakawa Village where the traditional framework, \u27Yui\u27 has been long put into practice to preserve such houses. For the purpose of comprehending transition of rethatching in the framework of preservation, hearing is conducted upon those who engage in the rethatching and some house owners who have in effect recently had the rethaching organised. \u27Yui\u27 is as much maintained as practiced there in Shirakawa Village in the very fashion where there are the three organisers of rethatching one of whom the owner of the house is to choose accordingly. Not only that a thing, thatched roof is preserved, but also that the framework of preservation is revised or developed to be effective in handing down the culture of thatching is hoped.
